The Hospice Hour

Woking & Sam Beare Hospice is a people-centred charity, providing outstanding hospice care for every community in North West Surrey – delivered with compassion, excellence and financial resilience.

We’re asking employers to bring the whole office together for just one wonderful hour to raise funds to support patients being cared for by your local hospice.

The concept is simple, employers are asked to give one hour of time to employees, on a date of your choosing. In exchange, employees are asked to donate an hour of their salary to the company’s chosen hospice.

The Hospice Hour allows both businesses and employees to support their local hospice by simply donating an hour of your time. It’s an opportunity to take an hour out of our busy workdays to reflect and acknowledge what just 1 hour can do for your local hospice, whilst also appreciating the value and gift of time for yourself.

The hour your organisation gives to employees could look like gathering everyone for a pizza on their lunch break, or an hour of yoga – it’s up to you! Your company’s reward for employees can be as simple as you like, the most important thing is that employees are treated to something special by the company in exchange for donating an hour of their salary to hospice care.

Each year, Woking & Sam Beare Hospice and Wellbeing Care provides free, specialist palliative and end-of-life care to around 1,500 patients and their loved ones each year, 71% of whom are supported in their own homes.

Your support can make a real difference to local families.

£11 could pay for 3 meals for a patient (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
£26.31 could pay for an hour of care for a patient on the Inpatient Unit (IPU)
£39.49 could pay for 1 hour of physiotherapy
£51.45 could pay for a counselling session for an adult
£59.30 could pay for a wellbeing session
£109.85 could pay for a nurse to visit a patient in their own home

For Companies

As a company you can register today and ask your colleagues to join you. Upon registering we will provide you with a digital pack containing;

  • Email template to communicate your involvement with staff internally
  • Social Media assets and suggested post content for communicating your involvement externally on platforms such as Linked-in.
  • Etag for staff to promote your organisations involvement in the campaign.
  • Thank You poster to acknowledge the fundraising efforts of employees. 
  • Hospice Posters highlighting your impact and where your funds go.
  • When employees make a donation at finesthour.ie they will receive a personalised The Hospice Hour donation badge that can be shared online.
  • Link to an short film that encapsulates the real impact of hospice care that you can use to share why you are choosing to support WSBH

 

By participating in The Hospice Hour in aid of WSBH, you will be taking part in a wonderful cycle of giving from employer to employee to hospice, that will go on to provide vital support for hospice patients and their families.

Are you ready to sign up?

  1. Register on behalf of your company by clicking on the Register Your Company button.
  2. Download your digital pack containing assets to support your company to participate and engage employees in the event.
  3. Choose a date for your company to give an hour of time to employees.
  4. Communicate your company’s plan to participate internally with employees using our email template included in your digital pack.
  5. Circulate your company’s personalised fundraising URL where employees are asked to donate an hour of their salary using our online wage calculator.

For Individuals

Do you want to donate an hour of your salary to hospice? Here’s how:

  1. Use our salary calculator to calculate your hourly wage.
  2. If your company has registered to participate, their name will appear in the company dropdown menu. Select your company’s name, and complete the donation form. Your donation will automatically go to your company’s chosen hospice.
  3. If your company is not participating in the event, please select ‘No My company is not participating’ in the company dropdown menu, choose your preferred hospice, and complete the donation form.
  4. When your donation is complete, you will receive a personalised The Hospice Hour badge that can be shared online.
